For six generations, Fulton County residents have chosen this pharmacy location and for six generations the owners and employees have given back to the community in countless ways. Fifteen years is not long in retrospect to the former owners’ tenure, but our obligation to the community is just as committed. New Together Rx Access Program Kicks Off!

March 1st was the official launch date for the new Together Rx Access program. Like its predecessor, it is a FREE discount card that offers savings of 25-40% on over 275 brand name prescription drugs. Unlike the original Together Rx card, this card is available to any one under the age of 65 who does not qualify for Medicare and does not already have prescription drug coverage. The program is based on income and number of family dependants. Webb’s is currently enrolling all applicants who qualify and are strongly promoting the program in order to help our customers save money. To find out if you or someone you know qualifies, stop in at either one of our two locations to pick up an application or enroll at the pharmacy.

To relieve and prevent cold sores

Lysine, an amino acid, has been shown to prevent and relieve cold sores, which are caused by the herpes virus. It is thought that lysine might interfere with the absorption of arginine, an amino acid necessary for the herpes virus to replicate. Lysine has also been shown to help with canker sores and shingles.

For acute onset of cold sores, recommended lysine dose is 1000 mg three times daily at first sign of symptoms. For prevention of cold sores, recommended dose is 500 mg twice daily. Side effects are very minimal, with diarrhea and abdominal cramps being the most common. You should not consume dairy products with lysine, as it will make it less effective. For severe infections it is recommended you see a physician to obtain a prescription product.

Cold sore triggers to avoid include; UV light, stress, fatigue, foods high in arginine (chocolate and various legumes), and windburn.

Lysine is very inexpensive and can be purchased at your local Webb’s Wellness Center at either of our two locations.

Cold Sore Lip Balm

From the Compounding Pharmacists

at Webb’s Family Pharmacy

If you suffer from frequent cold sores, we may have just the remedy you are looking for. Cold Sore Lip Balm is a compounded product that helps to shorten the duration of cold sores caused by the herpes simplex virus (HSV-1). One major advantage to this product versus commercially available products is a significant reduction in cost. It is a prescription only product and thus requires a valid prescription from your physician.

What’s In It? Our product contains three active ingredients that work together to quickly eliminate viral lesions and relieve the pain. Acyclovir is an antiviral to prevent viral replication and control spread of the lesions. Sodium lauryl sulfate has been shown to enhance the effectiveness of the drug by increasing the absorption of the acyclovir. Lidocaine helps relive associated pain and discomfort. Lidocaine is optional at your physician’s discretion.

How Do I Use It? Our Cold Sore Lip Balm comes in a convenient lip balm stick that is normally applied five times per day or at your physician’s discretion.

Are There Any Side Effects? Burning and/or dry lips are the most common side effects. An emollient such as CarmexÔ is recommended to use in conjunction to keep the lips from drying out and cracking, which can result in greater susceptibility to infection.

Precautions: Do not share this product with others, as the virus is contagious and can be easily transmitted to others. Use this product only as directed by your physician.

In addition to this product, we can compound various prescription only gels, creams, and ointments to treat cold sores tailored to your physician’s request.
