As we all continue to navigate the challenges of COVID-19, it's exciting to see new advancements in vaccines that can help keep us safe. Moderna has just introduced its latest COVID-19 vaccine, called mNEXSPIKE, which was approved in 2025. Let’s break down what mNEXSPIKE is all about and why it matters for your health.

Why Should You Care About mNEXSPIKE?

One of the most important things about mNEXSPIKE is that it offers better protection against COVID-19 compared to the older Spikevax vaccine. In fact, studies show that mNEXSPIKE is 13% more effective at preventing illness in adults aged 65 and older. This is especially important because older adults are at higher risk for severe illness from COVID-19.

Who is Eligible for mNEXSPIKE?

mNEXSPIKE is available for:

  • Adults aged 65 and older: This group is at a higher risk for severe illness from COVID-19, making vaccination especially important.

  • Younger individuals with specific health conditions: Conditions could include chronic respiratory diseases, heart conditions, diabetes, or other serious health issues.

If you're unsure whether you qualify for mNEXSPIKE, it's best to consult with your healthcare provider. They can help you understand your eligibility and the best options for your vaccination.

Is mNEXSPIKE Safe for You?

Safety is always a top concern when it comes to vaccines, and mNEXSPIKE is no different. The safety profile of this new vaccine is similar to Spikevax, which many people have already received. Most people experience only mild side effects, such as a sore arm, feeling tired, or a headache. Don’t worry—these side effects usually go away within one to two days!

In Summary

At Webb’s Family Pharmacy, mNEXSPIKE will be available to eligible patients to provide better protection against COVID-19, especially for older adults and those at higher risk. Staying informed about vaccines is important for making the best choices for your health and safety. If you have any questions or concerns, don’t hesitate to talk to any of our pharmacists or your healthcare provider. Stay safe and healthy!
